GENERAL SPECIFICATION SHEET AND INSTALLATION OVERVIEW
(Part #5070)
‘00-'06 Ford Explorer Sport Trac (Drill-Less)

SPECIFICATIONS

Number of Panels: Two (2)

Number of locks: Two (2) - One on the driver’s side right behind the cab of the truck (on the front panel). One lock on the rear of the back cover

Number of latches: Two (2) latch mechanisms that latch all 4 corners down to truck

Weight of Cover: 25 lbs (vs. 75+ lbs for the Ford Sport Trac Cover).

Number of Hinges: 1 Piano Hinge that runs the width of the truck bed at the center. Each panel has a slam latch that latches the cover down to the bed of the truck. Once latched down, you simply lock the front panel and the rear panel down to “lock” the cover closed.

Number of Gaskets: 2 D Shaped Seals (like a windshield wiper) on each side rail
(these are high quality rubber gaskets with a peel and stick polymer adhesive on the underside for easy installation).

Tailgate Accessible without unlocking/unlatching rear panel? YES. When you unlock your tailgate on your Sport Trac, you can swing open the tailgate and slide things into the truck bed without ever opening the cover (if you had a fiberglass cover, you would have to unlock the cover and raise a fairly heavy cover upwards a couple of inches just to open up the tailgate). Not so with this cover.

Drilling Required? NO.

***Our cover utilizes the “pre-drilled” holes that come with every Ford Sport Trac from the factory. Our hardware is designed to match perfectly with all of these holes to ensure a secure installation without drilling!!

PLASTIC BEDLINER: NO PROBLEM. All Sport Tracs have Composite Boxes and rails that come from the factory!

OTHER HARDWARE:

Center Keyhole Bracket - Mounted along the center of the side wall inside of your truck bed. This Brace is held in place utilizing the two existing “pre-drilled” and “pre threaded” holes that come with your Sport Trac. We provide the special bolts to mount this bracket/brace securely.

Front Latch Catch Brackets(2) – Both are mounted on the front inside lip of the side rail, near the front corners of the truck bed (near the cab). These are angled brackets that are held in place by utilizing the 3 existing pre-drilled and pre-threaded holes match up to the lock catch and are held in place by special bolts that we provide.

Rear Lock Catch Brackets (2) - Both mounted on the rear inside lip of the side rail, near the back corners of the truck bed (near the cab). These are angled brackets that are held in place by utilizing the 3 existing pre-drilled and pre-threaded holes match up to the lock catch and are held in place by special bolts that we provide.

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW:

    1. Trim off the 8 plastic plug caps off the top 2 plugs in each corner of the truck bed). Push the remaining pieces through the hole and using a hammer and nail or punch. Make sure holes are clear
    2. At the center of side wall inside of your truck bed, pry 4 plugs out with a standard screwdriver (these are the two center plugs on each side).
    3. Place Lock Washers on screws (all 12 screws)
    4. Place all hardware (the 4 latch catch brackets, the two keyhole brackets and the 12 screws inside of the truck).
    5. Attach center keyhole brackets in the pre-drilled holes in the center of the side wall inside of your truck bed
    6. Apply D-Shaped Seal (with the peel and stick gasket) along the top edge of the box along the entire length of the truck bed.
    7. Place spacer that is provided to onto side rails of truck to help you align the cover correctly,
    8. Fit cover onto the truck, placing 3rd Leg Hinge into Keyhole Bracket.

      Explanation of 3rd Leg Hinge:

3rd Leg hinge is a flap of metal that is integrated into the hinge

This flap is located as it hangs right next to the side rail (at its center).

When you mount the cover, this flap hangs straight down, and slides right into the keyhole bracket

    9. Install your stainless steel bolt with lock nut that secures the 3rd Leg Hinge (the flap) into the keyhole bracket on each side. That is “your” permanent point of attachment.

(THESE ARE THE SAME TWO BOLTS THAT YOU REMOVE TO TAKE OFF THE COVER)

*Remember, the cover is now “installed” and cannot slide around – so now you can easily install the remaining hardware.

    10. Install all latch catches so that the latch catches the bracket with no play (as play will cause vibration and noise.
